  • If you consume alcohol, do so in moderation. Avoid tobacco use.
  • Reduce stressing in your daily life by practicing yoga and breathing exercises.
  • Maintain a healthy body weight by means of judicious diet and regular physical activity. Avoid crash diets and starvation diets.
  • While beginning an exercise program, start low and go slow.
  • Try to increase physical activity in your daily life by taking the stairs instead of the lift and walking to your colleague’s cubicle at the office rather than using the intercom.
Routine checkup
  • Be regular in your diet, physical activity and medication use.
  • Check your sugars regularly as recommended by your physician.
  • Do not miss your scheduled doctor’s appointments.
  • Do get yourself evaluated for diabetes complications at regular intervals as advised by your doctor.
  • Check your blood pressure and cholesterol levels regularly and keep them under control.
  • If you are woman with diabetes and plan to have a baby, get your sugars under control before conceiving.
  • It is ideal to carry a Diabetes Identity Card detailing the nature of your disease and steps to be taken if you are found to be ill.
